Who we are

We realise that we live in a nation where we often tend to forget our heroes. We do not celebrate our past until it is often too late. As a result, we have made sure that every year we visit and provide material support for the families of the lost ones.

We have over the decades organized walks in Kumasi and Accra to raise awareness of this tragedy, held lectures, raised funds to support many of the families, and with the help of our most loyal sponsors, donated food, equipment, and monetary remunerations to those who were directly affected by the events of the 2001 May 9th Stadium Disaster.

May 9th Disaster

On Wednesday, the 9th of May 2001, 126 soccer fans, who had gone to watch a football match between two of the country’s most successful clubs lost their lives at the Accra Sports Stadium. This tragedy coming some days after similar stadium tragedies in South Africa, Congo, and The Ivory Coast shook the Ghanaian nation to the core.

May 9th, 2001 in Ghana must never be forgotten. It is not so much about those who died in the stadium disaster, but about those who were neglected by not preventing the catastrophe. Let us not repeat the mistakes of the past.

Message from our founder

May 9th remembrance has been around for a very long time... and I say it has outlasted many ministers of sports none of who have ever joined. It has outlasted many GFA Presidents who have never joined us… and many other dignitaries who haven’t but it doesn’t matter because we don’t do it for them. We do it for us.

As we move, we will continue to raise funds. There are people with medical conditions needing help which we are committed to… and we are making sure that people do not forget this historic disaster.
